20 Things That Changed As I Lost the Weight

weight loss Jul 09, 2026

After losing the weight, I realized the biggest transformation wasn't my body it was the way I experienced my life.

These are the things that changed for me.

1. My body fell in love with movement.

Exercise no longer feels like punishment. What once felt heavy and exhausting now feels freeing. I genuinely love moving my body because it makes me feel alive.

There was a time when my body constantly reminded me that it was struggling. I would wake up in the middle of the night with painful leg cramps. My knees hurt so much that even getting up from the floor felt difficult. Simple movements that I took for granted became frustrating reminders of how disconnected I had become from my health.

Today, my body tells a completely different story.

Movement has become something my body craves. I love feeling strong, flexible, and capable. I can squat down, get back up with ease, walk for hours, dance, lift weights, and enjoy being active without constantly thinking about pain.

My body isn't asking me to punish it anymore. It's asking me to keep experiencing life through movement.

2. My confidence has improved.

My confidence isn't based on compliments anymore. It's built on every workout I completed, every walk I took, and every promise I kept to myself. That confidence now shows up in the way I carry myself, my posture,  and the way I walk into a room.

3. I started loving myself more.

I no longer see myself as someone who constantly lets herself down. I know I can do hard things. I know I can become more. Because of that, I ask for more from life.

There was a time when life felt like I was constantly being punished like I had to struggle for every good thing. But today, I move through life with a completely different belief. I feel deeply supported.

I see myself as the muse of my own life. My energy is valuable. My presence matters. I no longer shrink myself or wait for permission to take up space. Loving myself has changed the way I experience everything around me.

4. Shopping became exciting.

I love trying on clothes now. Walking into fitting rooms used to fill me with dread. Today, I enjoy experimenting with different styles and expressing myself through fashion.

5. I finally feel safe in my own body.

My body doesn't feel like something I'm constantly trying to escape. It feels like home.

This wasn't something that happened just because I lost weight. It came from releasing years of old trauma and choosing to meet myself with compassion instead of criticism.

It required more of me than simply eating well or going to the gym. It required nervous system regulation, breathwork, journaling, sitting with uncomfortable emotions, and allowing myself to receive support from mentors who could hold me through the process.

I realized I wasn't just changing my body I was changing the way my body experienced life. That's when everything began to feel different. My body stopped feeling like the enemy and became the safest place I could come home to.

6. I enjoy being seen.

For years, I wanted to disappear. I wanted to be invisible because deep down, I didn't feel safe in my own body. I carried so much shame about how I looked that the thought of being noticed felt overwhelming.

Today, I no longer hide. I don't mind people noticing me because I am proud of the work I've put into becoming healthier. Every workout, every walk, every choice to care for myself became an act of self-respect.

Being seen no longer feels threatening

I spent years believing visibility wasn't safe. Now I know that taking up space isn't something I have to earn. I get to be seen. I get to be noticed. And I get to celebrate the woman I have become.

7. My style completely changed.

When I was overweight, I dressed to hide myself. My clothes were chosen to make me look smaller, to cover the parts of me I felt ashamed of.

Today, I dress to celebrate myself.

Fashion has become a form of self-expression instead of hidhing. I get excited to wear skirts, shorts, sleeveless tops, and outfits that I would have never felt comfortable wearing before. I no longer ask, "How can I hide my body?  Instead I ask, "What makes me feel beautiful?"

I also understand my body so much better now. I enjoy finding clothes that flatter my body shape instead of forcing myself into trends that don't suit me. Dressing has become less about covering up and more about honouring the body I've worked so hard to care for.

Getting dressed is no longer about hiding my insecurities.

It's about expressing my confidence.

8. I have so much respect for women who go to the gym.

Every woman who walks into a gym is doing something incredibly courageous. I know because I've lived it.

I know what it feels like to force yourself through those doors when your confidence is at its lowest. I know what it's like to hide in a corner, hoping no one notices you. To choose the machine furthest away. To make yourself as small as possible.

I know what it's like to avoid looking at yourself in the mirrors because all you can see is how far you've drifted from the person you want to be.

I've had moments where I broke down, grieving how unhealthy I had allowed myself to become. There were days I felt embarrassed to even be there.

But I kept showing up.

And that's why I have so much respect for every woman in the gym not because of how she looks, how much weight she lifts, or how fit she is but because she chose herself that day.

The gym isn't just where muscles are built or weight is lost.

It's where courage is built. It's where self-trust is built. It's where a woman slowly begins to believe that she's worth taking care of.

It's changing the relationship she has with herself.

9. I want to keep improving but not from a place of lack.

I always want to become better not because I feel lacking but because life gets to become richer, fuller, and filled with experiences that become beautiful memories.

10. I enjoy taking up space

There was a time when I wanted to be as invisible as possible. I didn't want people to notice me. I would shrink myself, avoid eye contact, wear clothes that hid my body, and quietly blend into the background.

Today, I enjoy taking up space.

This transformation wasn't just about losing weight. It required me to let go of the old identity that believed I had to earn love through people-pleasing, overachieving, and constantly making sure everyone else was okay before I could think about myself.

For years, I believed that if I stayed small, agreeable, and invisible, I would be loved and accepted. But all it did was disconnect me from myself.

Healing taught me that I don't have to earn my place in the room.

I don't have to shrink my personality, my body, or my dreams to make other people comfortable.

Now I stand taller. I make eye contact. I wear the clothes I love. I allow myself to be seen without apologizing for my presence.

It's trusting that my voice matters, my presence matters, and I am worthy not because of what I do for others, but simply because I exist.

11. I feel magnetic.

I simply feel more connected to myself. I feel free to be myself.

The more I healed, the more I stopped performing, people-pleasing, and seeking validation. I became more authentic.  More present.

I no longer walk into a room hoping people will like me.

I walk into a room liking myself.

There's a freedom that comes from no longer hiding who you are.

12. I smile at myself in the mirror.

Sometimes I even blow flying kisses to my reflection when I am alone. And for someone who once avoided mirrors - it's one of the biggest transformations of all.

13. Walking became non-negotiable.

Getting my daily steps isn't something I force myself to do anymore. If I don't move my body, I actually miss it.

14. My body became my Roman Empire.

I love learning about it, taking care of it, strengthening it, nourishing it, and seeing what it's capable of.

15. My beauty standards evolved.

I invest in quality skincare. I take care of my skin. I enjoy looking after myself. Self-care no longer feels like a luxury it feels like self-respect.

16. I stopped shaming myself around food.

During PMS or special occasions, I might eat more than usual. Instead of spiraling into guilt I simply return to my routine. This is my lifestyle now, not a temporary diet.

17. I stopped feeling jealous of other women.

One of the most unexpected changes was that I stopped comparing myself to other women.

When I didn't feel secure in myself, another woman's beauty, confidence, or success felt like proof that I was lacking something. I thought there wasn't enough space for all of us to shine.

But healing changed that.

I realized every woman has her own gifts, her own beauty, and her own path. Her light won't dim mine, and mine cannot dim hers.

I truly believe that when one woman stands in her power, she gives another woman permission to stand in hers too.

So now, instead of feeling jealous, I feel inspired.

I can admire another woman's confidence, beauty, style, or success without questioning my own worth. I celebrate her because I know there is room for all of us.

The more I stand fully in my own power, the more I create space for other women to do the same.

And I hope my journey reminds another woman that she gets to shine, too.

Because confidence isn't a competition.

It's an invitation for all of us to rise together.

18. My eye contact changed.

There was a time I avoided eye contact because I felt ashamed of my body. Today, I look people in the eyes with confidence. I no longer feel the need to hide.

19. My mood is so much lighter.

My mornings feel completely different now. I wake up believing that life gets to become better and better, and that one belief has changed the way I experience each day.

I no longer wake up wondering if it will be good today or whether I will stick to my routine. I already know I will.

Showing up for my body has become a certainty, not a negotiation.

I know I will go to the gym. I know I will get my steps in. I know I will nourish my body. These habits are no longer things I have to convince myself to do they've become part of who I am.

That certainty gives me so much peace.

20. I trust myself.

This may be the greatest gift weight loss has given me.

Self-trust.

For years, I didn't trust myself. I didn't trust that I could stay consistent. I didn't trust that I would follow through. Every failed diet, every promise I broke to myself, became evidence that I couldn't rely on me.

Losing the weight changed that not because of the number on the scale, but because of the woman I became along the way.

Every workout I completed.

Every morning I chose to get up.

Every walk I finished.

Every meal where I chose nourishment over self-punishment.

Every time I fell off track and chose to come back again instead of giving up.

Each one became evidence that I could count on myself.

Today, I know that if I say I'm going to do something, I'll do my best to honour it. And if I stumble, I don't abandon myself. I simply come back.

That has changed every area of my life.

Because self-trust isn't built in one big moment.

It's built in the thousands of tiny moments where you choose yourself over and over again.

Looking back, I don't believe my greatest transformation was losing over 20 kilograms. Losing weight gave me far more than a different body.

It has given me freedom, confidence, self-respect, peace

It has given me a deeper relationship with myself than I ever thought possible.

The greatest transformation wasn't physical.

It was becoming the kind of woman who trusts herself, loves herself, and enjoys living in her own body.
