My Glow Up Journey
Jul 23, 2026
If you had asked me three years ago what my goal was, I would have given you a very simple answer.
I wanted to lose weight.
That was the plan.
I wanted my knee pain to go away. I wanted to feel comfortable looking at myself in the mirror again. I wanted to fit back into my old clothes instead of watching even the XXL sizes become tight. I wanted to be able to sit on the floor and get back up without feeling like I couldn't carry my own body. I wanted to climb two flights of stairs without becoming completely out of breath.
I wasn't chasing confidence or trying to become the "best version" of myself. I wasn't thinking about healing, identity, or nervous system regulation.
I simply wanted to feel healthy again.
But somewhere along the journey, something unexpected happened.
The weight loss became the smallest part of the transformation.
The Journey That Changed Everything
When I began my weight loss journey in early 2023, I thought I was changing my body.
What I didn't realize was that I was slowly coming back home to myself.
As I started taking care of my health, I found myself wanting more than just a smaller body. I wanted to feel alive again. I wanted to discover what I was capable of. I wanted to build a life where health wasn't something I had to force but something that naturally became part of who I was.
Without realizing it, I had started choosing myself.
That decision would end up changing every area of my life.

The Story I Had Been Living
For a long time, I had unconsciously accepted the belief that life only gets worse as you grow older.
I saw people become more tired, more stressed, less energetic, and less healthy. Aging seemed to be associated with decline and I quietly accepted that this was simply what happened.
I bought into that story without questioning it.
Looking back, it makes me sad to realize how easily I allowed my circumstances to define what I believed was possible for my future. I had convinced myself that feeling exhausted, disconnected, and unhealthy was just part of getting older.
I couldn't see beyond the evidence that surrounded me.
But somehow, through what honestly feels like divine intervention, another belief slowly began replacing that old story.
What if life actually gets better?
What if I can become healthier each year?
What if my body can become stronger instead of weaker?
What if the second half of my life becomes my healthiest chapter?
Little by little, I started living as though those beliefs were true. And my life began reflecting them.
The Real Glow Up Was Never Physical
When I look back over these past three years, I realize my greatest transformation wasn't the number on the scale.
The real glow up was learning to choose myself.
For years I had been living in survival mode without even realizing it. My body was constantly preparing for something to go wrong. I was always rushing, always thinking ahead, always bracing for impact. Stress had become so normal that I didn't even know another way to live.
Because my nervous system never felt safe, I became disconnected from my own body.
I feared change. I feared uncertainty. I feared uncomfortable emotions. I feared anything unfamiliar because unfamiliar felt unsafe.
When your body spends years surviving, it stops feeling like home.
It simply becomes something you carry around.
Healing began when I started reconnecting with myself instead of constantly trying to escape the discomfort.

Learning to Trust Myself
As I built self-trust, I began building courage.
Not courage to become someone else, but courage to become more fully myself.
I slowly stopped letting society, my past, or other people's expectations decide what my life should look like. Instead, I started asking myself what I actually wanted.
That wasn't easy.
I had spent years being the good girl. The people pleaser. The perfectionist. Overachiever.
I believed love had to be earned through achievement, through making everyone else comfortable, and through putting myself last.
Choosing myself first felt uncomfortable because it challenged everything I had believed about who I needed to be.
Learning to trust uncertainty instead of controlling everything was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Learning to slow down felt almost unnatural.
But every small act of choosing myself taught my body something new.
It taught my nervous system that I was finally safe.
One Decision Changed My Identity
One lesson continues to stay with me.
Decisions carry far more power than we often realize.
The day I decided I had had enough of living in an unhealthy body, something shifted inside me.
That decision required responsibility.
It required accountability.
It meant I could no longer blame my childhood, my circumstances, my schedule, or anyone else for where my life was heading.
For a long time, blame had helped me survive.
Responsibility helped me transform.
Once I made that decision, my identity slowly began changing because my daily actions started aligning with the woman I had decided to become.

Weight Loss Couldn't Be Just One Chapter
One of the biggest realizations I had was that weight loss couldn't simply become one chapter in my life before returning to my old way of living.
I couldn't lose the weight and then continue thinking, believing, and behaving like the version of me who had created those habits.
If I wanted lasting change, I had to rewrite the entire book.
My lifestyle had to change. My beliefs had to change. The way I saw food had to change. The way I spoke to myself had to change. The way I cared for my body had to change. The way I looked at myself in the mirror had to change.
The woman I was becoming had to become my new normal.
That is what creates lasting transformation.
Looking in the Mirror
One memory stands out from the beginning of my journey.
I remember standing in front of the mirrors at the gym and feeling so much disappointment.
I hated looking at myself. I hated that I had let myself get to that point. I judged myself constantly.
Today, those same mirrors tell a completely different story.
Now when I look at myself, I don't just see a body.
I see effort.
I see courage.
I see consistency.
I see a woman who kept showing up even when progress felt painfully slow.
I see someone who trusted the process before she had proof it was working.
Most importantly, I see someone who chose herself over and over again.
That is the woman I admire.
Becoming Someone New
The woman I see today is completely different from the girl who believed she had to earn love by pleasing everyone.
She trusts herself.
She stays connected to her body.
She continues doing the inner work.
She believes her work matters.
She believes she has value to offer the world.
She no longer waits for permission to take up space.
That is the greatest glow up I could have ever asked for.
If I Could Leave You With One Thing
If there's one lesson this journey has taught me it's this:
Choose yourself first.
So many of us were taught to be a good girl - meant putting everyone else's needs before our own. We became people pleasers, caretakers, perfectionists, and performers. We learned to earn love instead of simply receiving it.
But no amount of love from other people will ever feel enough if you don't first choose yourself.
Your journey may not begin with weight loss.
Maybe it begins with healing.
Starting a business. Traveling. Changing careers. Leaving a relationship.
Or simply deciding that you've had enough of living disconnected from yourself.
The path will be different for every woman.
But the destination is always the same.
Coming home to yourself.
Because the most beautiful glow up isn't becoming someone new.
It's finally becoming the woman you've always been underneath the survival, the fear, and the expectations.
And I promise you it is worth choosing her.
